OCTOBER 27 PROGRAM

Past President J.T. Beckman, Program Chairman for the month of October, has invited the following speaker for October for our next meeting:

FELLOW ROTARIAN MATT CROSS, LAMAR PORT ARTHUR SEAHAWKS BASKETBALL COACH

FINANCIAL INFORMATION PRESENTED BY VAUGHN

Past President J.T. Beckman, Program Chairman for the October, introduced Charles Vaughn as our guest speaker. Mr. Vaughn is a native of Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He received a degree from Texas A&M and has lived in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and returned to the Golden Triangle in 1993. Mr. Vaughn is an Investment Advisor Representative for Safe Harbor Estate and Retirement Planners in Beaumont. Mr. Vaughn showed us a dollar which represents your entire retirement stages. Uncle Sam wants one part as well; inflation, health care and Medicare costs, etc. Taxes and inflation are often the biggest threats. Now, there is a new threat and Mr. Vaughn said that is health care costs. Medicare will probably be cut back and it will be more and more out of our pockets. Mr. Vaughn said that more and more doctors will probably be dropping out of Medicare. Mr. Vaughn said a couple reaching the age of 65, it is going to take about $305,000 to meet their health care costs according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute and the couple are both healthy. If they retire in 2018, it will cost the couple $511,000 because of medical inflation and paying more and more out of your pocket. Another threat would be if you are put in a nursing home. Medicare will not pay for your nursing home costs. If you put in a nursing home, you could get long-term health insurance. Another alternative is reverse mortgage or life insurance. You can also get Medicaid Planning.
