HALL ADDRESSES CLUB ON THE ALDERSGATE TRINITY CAMPUS

Past President Ken Burke, Program Chairman for the month of October, introduced Russell Hall as our guest speaker. Mr. Hall is the Assistant Pastor of the Methodist Temple and the Administrator at the Aldersgate Trinity Campus. He was born and raised in Houston and got his BS at the University of Houston and his Masters of Divinity at SMU. Mr. Hall and his wife, Erica, have one child. Mr. Hall told the club that in April of this, the Methodist Temple and Aldersgate Trinity Methodist merged and they are now one church with two campuses. It has been an interesting change in growth and they have turned the Aldersgate Trinity Campus into a mission outpost. Mr. Hall’s mission was to change the face of Port Arthur. As they began their ministry, they realized there was a great need south of Hwy. 73. There was a need to get folks to stay in school longer, reach out to folks who needed a greater need and they developed outreaches and ministries to help these folks. Mr. Hall said the partnered with the Port Arthur Group of Alcoholic Anonymous and they have 21 AA meetings a week at the Aldersgate Trinity Campus. They have a group called Midweek Encounters which gives them an opportunity to work faith to faith and hands on with persons in recovery and that has been a real blessing. They also have started several worship services to make it easier to get reconnected to their faith. Mr. Hall also said they have partnered with Christian Men and Christian Women Job Corps about six months ago and it is a group that teach people life’s skills. They also have a program called Mentoring Matters is an after school tutoring program to help children in elementary schools who are struggling with their studies. Mr. Hall told us about the Mustard Seed Ministries that takes old computers and refurbish them and give them to fifth graders in the area. Mustard Seed Ministries started in Tyler. They also have computer classes for beginners and intermediate classes.
